La historia.
En el año 1985 dio la vuelta al mundo la foto de Steve Mc Curry para la revista National Geographic, se trataba de su famoso retrato de “La chica afgana” en un campo de refugiados en Pakistán. Era un reportaje que daba a conocer al mundo la odisea que viven los refugiados.
En 2001 la revista dispuso de un operativo para reencontrar a aquella niña, ahora mujer, en Pakistán.
En 2002, paralelamente a la nueva publicación de National Geographic del reencuentro de Steve Mc Curry con esta mujer, Victoria Pérez da a conocer su obra, “La Refugiada”, un busto de una mujer con un manto rojo cubriéndole la cabeza, que recreaba la imagen de aquel retrato.
Durante años Victoria Pérez exhibió su busto de “La Refugiada” en distintas exposiciones en Argentina y España, nunca quiso ponerla a la venta, por su valor sentimental.
En 2020, Victoria, recibe una oferta de un coleccionista, que a su vez es una persona que trabaja como voluntario en el campo de refugiados de Atenas, cada año, durante su mes de descanso, lo dedica a viajar a Grecia y prestar ayuda como voluntario. Él conoce de primera mano las condiciones en las que se vive allí y las historias de las personas que llegan hasta allí buscando refugio.
Victoria reflexiona que si hay alguien a quien estaría dispuesta a entregar el busto, esta sería la persona indicada. Se realiza la operación de compraventa y acto seguido, el cliente hace el encargo de un compañero masculino para la escultura de la mujer refugiada.
Luego de la investigación de la verdadera historia de la protagonista de la foto, se encuentra con fotos del hermano y del marido de la misma. Recrea la imagen del marido, cogiendo algunos elementos de otros rostros de otros refugiados. Lo importante era que su semblante trasmitiera una historia de vida, pero a diferencia del busto de la mujer, en el cual la mirada trasmite mucha desesperación, la mirada del hombre, debía tener una pequeña brizna de esperanza.
El busto de “Hassan, el refugiado” ha sido terminado en septiembre de 2020. Tiene 43 cm de altura, 31 de ancho y 23 de profundidad. Es de terracota, está policromado con técnicas mixtas.

“Hassan, the refugee”
The history.
In 1985, Steve Mc Curry’s photo for National Geographic magazine went around the world, it was his famous portrait of “The Afghan Girl” in a refugee camp in Pakistan. It was a report that made known to the world the odyssey that refugees live.
In 2001 the magazine organized an operation to rediscover that girl, now a woman, in Pakistan.
In 2002, in parallel to the new National Geographic publication of Steve Mc Curry’s reunion with this woman, Victoria Pérez released her work, “La Refugiada”, a bust of a woman with a red cloak covering her head, which recreated the image of that portrait.
For years Victoria Pérez exhibited her bust of “La Refugiada” in different exhibitions in Argentina and Spain, she never wanted to put it up for sale, because of its sentimental value.
In 2020, Victoria, receives an offer from a collector, who in turn is a person who works as a volunteer in the Athens refugee camp, every year, during his month of rest, he dedicates it to travel to Greece and provide help as voluntary. He knows first-hand the conditions in which they live there and the stories of the people who come there seeking refuge.
Victoria reflects that if there is someone to whom she would be willing to give the bust, this would be the right person. The sale and purchase operation is carried out and immediately afterwards, the client orders a male companion for the sculpture of the refugee woman.
After investigating the true story of the protagonist of the photo, she finds photos of her brother and husband. Recreate the image of the husband, taking some elements from other faces of other refugees. The important thing was that his face conveyed a life story, but unlike the bust of the woman, in which the look conveyed a lot of despair, the man’s look should have a small glimmer of hope.
The bust of “Hassan the Refugee” was completed in September 2020. It is 43 cm high, 31 cm wide and 23 cm deep. It is made of terracotta, it is polychrome with mixed techniques.
